102.3 KCUV - Rock Without Rules

airstaff

Nickname:

Hey you!

Birthday: November 5
How long have you been at KCUV: Since July of 2007, so about eight months.
What was your first job in radio: My first on-air job was a volunteer shift at KGNU, a public radio station in Boulder. I was on weeknights from 3 to 5:30 AM. It was brutal, but a lot of fun at the same time. My first paying on-air job was at 99.5 the Mountain- I was there for almost three years when Oz talked me into coming to KCUV. It was the right thing to do.
What does “Rock Without Rules” mean to you:

It means playing what feels right, not playing what we're expected to play. It means the music comes first!

Favorite band/artist:

If you gave me enough time,  I could easily name a few hundred favorites. But out of those few hundred, I would mention Dave Alvin, the Rolling Stones, X, Johnny Cash, Todd Rundgren, Cheap Trick, Zero 7, Massive Attack, Los Lonely Boys, Gary Stewart, and of course, Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. And Stevie Wonder. And Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. But those are just a few I can name right now...

Most memorable concert experience:

Wow- that's a tough one... I'd say just about any show at Red Rocks. For me, that would include Ozomatli and Los Lonely Boys, ZZ Top, BB King, Lucinda Williams and Ryan Adams (but not all at one show). Speaking of Red Rocks, in June of 1983, I had a chance to go hear U2 play there. I had heard it might rain that night, so I didn't go.  I still kick myself every time I think about it!

Favorite movie? Oh man... you're killing me here! Since I seem unable to give just one answer, I'll give you the names of a few off the top of my head. Some of my favorites include Jacob's Ladder, Mr. Hulot's Holiday, Under Fire, The Jerk, El Mariachi, Before Sunrise, and Terminator 2, in no particular order.
Who makes you laugh: My four year old son. Recently he was on the phone with my aunt, and after they had talked for a few minutes, he asked her "Well, is that all you have to say?". He catches us off guard sometimes.
Favorite food:

Good Italian, like at the Cherry Tomato. Also Middle Eastern food, especially at Jerusalem. I'm also a fan of Famous Dave's barbeque- it's my personal favorite since Dick's Hickory Dock in Kittredge went out of business.

Favorite thing to do in Denver: Walking in Washington Park, concerts at Red Rocks, playing at the open mic at Cricket On The Hill.
What do you enjoying doing in your free time: I'm a musician, so I love writing, playing and recording music in my home studio. I also like working on restoring my VW Bus (a 1966 Westfalia named Henrietta II), and I'm having a lot of fun introducing my son to some of my favorite songs, albums and bands. He loves music, just like I do. Maybe someday he'll want to be a DJ too...
